2026

Brand Overview & Rebrand Process
The MixMatch is a lively craft studio located in Fort Worth, TX, with classes ranging from wheel throwing to tattooing to basket weaving. The studio is inviting and warm while also placing strong emphasis on craftsmanship, education, and the history and tradition of a wide variety of crafts and ways of making. The MixMatch is many things in addition! They also house a handmade shop, host several events each month, and have summer camps for kids. The studio is continuously evolving and seeking a timeless rebrand to showcase their unique identity and grow with them.

The existing branding (image below provided by studio owner) featured a wide color palette and typographic lockup as the logo.

The rebrand would feature a hand-drawn typographic brand mark to be used as the primary logo with a secondary icon as an additional logo. In developing the brand mark and logo, I sought to evoke the personal and ‘craft’ aspect of the MixMatch without directly referencing it (i.e. using imagery such as a paintbrush, pottery wheel, etc).

Initial sketches for logo:

Eventually, variations of a script logo were presented to the client.

Based on client feedback, two distinct directions were presented:
Option A is funky with an etheral touch. The logo evokes entryways through its two M shapes, which can represent the many possibilities and range of artistic expression present at the MixMatch. Stars are used as accompanying elements to bring balance to any logo lockup.
Option B is eclectic, artistic, and uses a timeless script and a modular logo system to change and grow with The MixMatch over time. Blocks with abstract symbols are used interchangeably and can be flexible with any layout or format.

After some back and forth tweaking on Option B, supporting typographic options were presented:

The MixMatch Rebrand

Brand Mark

The rebrand features a refreshed brand mark in a hand-drawn script, with just the right amount of movement and quirky serifs to express the brand’s creativity while maintaining professional credibility.

Color Palette

The color palette uses a deep, classic, and sophisticated merlot red as the primary color. Olive green, cornflower blue, and tomato red add liveliness as secondary accent colors. Oyster and black are supporting neutrals.
Logo

The logo echoes the quirks and movement of the brand mark with two stacked, script letter M’s – a timeless nod to the double M’s in MixMatch. The logo is designed to be Oyster/off-white on a dark background, contained within a circle or square.
TypographyThe branding system features two typefaces; GT Alpina Condensed Thin for display & header text, and GT Walsheim Condensed for body text. GT Walsheim is a highly versatile, sans-serif typeface that comes in varying weights. Both typefaces created by and licensed through Grilli Type.
Modular ElementsModular elements are used in a checkered pattern with alternating positive/negative shapes or alternating colors. The elements sit right at the edges of their square container.

Elements can also be used on their own, decoratively.
